What is Sun Awareness Week?

Are you wondering what Sun Awareness Week is all about? Well, from May 1st to May 7th 2023, The British Association of Dermatologists (BAD) hosts this annual campaign to promote sun safety and raise awareness about the dangers of UV exposure for you and your little ones.

Even on those cloudy days, UV rays can still be damaging, which is why we're passionate about sun safety all year round. Our little explorers are especially vulnerable to UV rays and need proper protection - did you know that kids receive more sun exposure per year than adults?

That's why it's important to take extra precautions, including protecting the eyelids and skin around the eyes, which can be delicate and easily damaged.

It's not just skin damage that should be on your mind when we're out in the - kids' eyes are still developing and can't filter out harmful UV rays as effectively as adults. Why celebrate Sun Awareness Week?

Did you know that up to 80% of our lifetime exposure to damaging UV radiation occurs before age 18, according to the World Health Organization? That's why Sun Awareness Week is a crucial reminder for both you and your children's health.

Despite being a treat for us Brits, the sun's ultraviolet (UV) rays can pose a danger. Without adequate UV protection, excessive sun exposure, especially on the eyes, may cause various problems like cataracts, macular degeneration.
