Here at Babiators, we’re on a mission to protect kids’ eyes while they’re out exploring this awesome world. We champion all things adventuresome and with optimism for the future – so that kids can know they can go anywhere, conquer anything, and be total Rockstar's on the journey.
This mission, is one that extends to our community which is why we advocate for those who share a similar goal to give our mini-Rockstar's the very best in life. So, for GivingTuesday2021 we were dedicated to give something back.
We reached out to the charity Rays of Sunshine to see if we could help support the amazing work they do. With donations underway we decided to make this year even more special by donating 20% of sales across not only Giving Tuesday but up until the 12th day of December! Read on to discover why giving back is so important to us...
Who are Rays of Sunshine?
There are 49,000 children and young people living in the UK with a serious or life-limiting illness and this figure is increasing every year. Rays of Sunshine brightens the lives of seriously ill young people and their families by granting wishes and providing ongoing support within hospitals.
Like us, they believe that every child deserves to experience happiness, and put their illness on hold – even if it is just for one day. Their work creates a positive distraction, reduces isolation, improves self-esteem and creates precious memories and smiles.
Granting Magical Wishes
Every day of the year, Rays of Sunshine gives brave and deserving young people the chance to put their illness on hold and enjoy a moment of escape. Wishes can be as unique as the children themselves and whether a child wants to be a princess or a fireman for a day, own an iPad, meet their favourite celebrity or even a 'real-life' mermaid, or the Loch Ness Monster, Rays of Sunshine work hard to make that come true.
Sunshine in Hospitals
Their hospital team delivers sunshine to children up and down the country currently receiving treatment in hospital. From their Virtual Hospital Activity Days to Sensory Bags, they aim to reach children and their families when they need it the most. During the Coronavirus pandemic, they've even adapted services to continue bringing joy and hope to seriously ill young people.
The Ward Wishes benefit thousands of patients each year too, currently treatment in hospital or a hospice and have included decorating treatment rooms, purchasing equipment, funding sensory rooms and an indoor sensory garden.
What is Giving Tuesday?
The tradition began in the US in 2012 as a day to give back, falling on the Tuesday after Thanksgiving. It harnessed the power of social media and collaboration to inspire millions of people right across the world to come together on one day to celebrate the charities and communities that mean so much to us all.
After witnessing it’s successes, the UK has been an official partner of the global Giving Tuesday movement since 2014, and has grown every year, bringing more charities, businesses and organisations together to support the simple messages behind this expanding global campaign.
In 2014 the team at Charities Aid Foundation decided to turn Giving Tuesday in the UK into a full global partner of the campaign and since then has supported the growth of the campaign which now has thousands of partners across the charity and business sectors and enjoys support from celebrities and decision makers alike.
Today Giving Tuesday now happens officially in over 60 countries with the goal to create a wave of generosity that lasts well beyond the day and touches every person on the planet.
Why Giving Tuesday?
Giving Tuesday reimagines a world built upon shared humanity and generosity. This global network collaborates year-round to inspire generosity around the world, with a common mission to build a world where generosity is part of everyday life.
Whether it’s making someone smile, from anything such as helping a neighbour or stranger, showing up for an issue or people we care about, or giving some of what we have to those who need our help, every act of generosity counts, and everyone has something to give.
Our giving doesn't stop there...
Giving Tuesday has previously been a great success to raise money for our chosen charities, however this year we wanted to go a cut above. Our 12 days of Give-mas donation scheme seemed like the perfect gift this festive period, to not only highlight the work Rays of Sunshine do on the global day of giving, but extend this across December time too.
It is so easy to get wrapped up with the festivities of Christmas, but ultimately, Christmas is as much about giving as it is receiving.
